Hope Springs Eternal

The partial quote in the title refers to hope surviving hardship, and so I think it appropriate for Canadian's survival of our never-ending winters.  There's something about the arrival of warmer spring weather that fills my heart with hope and optimism.  I was starting to think that it was never going to come, but this week I noticed a couple of my shrubs with new buds on them, which was enough to give me a shot of energy and renewed hope for a warmer, sunnier season.

Tonight our family went out to the Market at Medalta where my kids ate wafels from wannawafel and I had a delicious pulled pork sandwich from Captain Pork.  I highly recommend the market.  I'm sure that as the season progresses, there will be a greater selection of fresh produce as well.

Some other events to keep in mind are this year's Downtown Medicine Hat Art Walk's Roving Art Receptions dates:

  • Friday May 2, 7:00-10:00pm
  • Friday, July 11
  • Friday, September 26 (Alberta Culture Days)
  • Friday, November 21

Also, there are two new websites with information about local events. Spectrum has a new website with information about the always fun Sunshine Festival which takes place downtown on Friday, May 30th to Sunday, June 1st. This year's event sees a return of the Soap Box Derby as well as the regional Scott Firefit competition.

Inspire Cafe recently launched a new website, which includes their live music schedule. Be sure to check this out as they host a variety of fantastic musicians as they tour through our city, as well as local talent.

And if you're looking for something to do this weekend, there are more options than you probably have time available. There's the Downtown Easter Egg Hunt, the Sunshine Skillet Food Festival and The Broncs & Honky Tonks Indoor Pro Rodeo; something for everyone.
