Making Shift Happen - Public Interest Alberta's Annual Conference this Weekend

Conference Banner

Make Shift Happen: Mobilizing the Power of the People is Public Interest Alberta's 6th annual advocacy conference. Join us April 19 - 21, 2012 in Edmonton at the Chateau Louis Hotel & Conference Centre, 11727 Kingsway Avenue.

We are living in critical times and like the rest of the world, faced with important decisions about how to respond to the growing economic crisis. While we are challenged by a government that is determined to continue on a path of pushing privatization and underfunding public services that are fundamental to the social and economic well-being of our families and communities, we must strive to build awareness and engage the public to speak out and demand that the government be held accountable for their actions.

This conference is an essential opportunity to work with other individuals and organizations to develop solutions to mobilize the power of the public and “Make Shift Happen”.

We are honoured to have as our keynote speaker John Ralston Saul. Our plenary speakers will be Armine Yalnizyan, Senior Economist with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, Dr. Danielle Martin, Board Chair of Canadian Doctors for Medicare and Anil Naidoo, Coordinator of the Blue Planet Project. Our Youth Activist Panel features Brigette DePape, Former Senate Page, Melanie Butler, Former Director of Code Pink in New York, and Liz Wingert, Teacher Activist from Wisconsin. The conference will feature three mobilization panels on the following subjects: social policy frameworks; the public control of water and youth activism.
